One of my favorite pics of Hayden and Baby Carter
Yesterday was another 1 year mark for us. It was one year from the day my precious nephew, Baby Carter, passed away. I really miss that he was not able to grow up with my little guy as his best cousin.
We spent the day with Sarah, JJ, and Hayden (Carter's Family). We went to the aquarium to see the penguins. It was fun and interesting. We got a personal tour from the manager of the aquarium. It was great and all the kids loved watching the penguins. We also visited Carter's grave site. We let go of balloons, it was a gorgeous day, but it just so happened that when we let go of the balloons the wind blew. Half the balloons got stuck in a tree. We spent awhile shaking trees, throwing rocks, and using a 20 foot PVC pipe, to get them out of the trees. At the cemetery Hayden walked around telling his cousin that while looking at headstones, "2 horses and a kid died." There was horse pictures on the headstone. It was so cute and funny and so sad all at the same time. We played the rest of the day at Sarah's and looked at Carter's scrapbook. My sister-in-law is so amazing. She is the best mom! She is so good and sweet with my twins who are so close in age to what Carter should be.
Last year I made a commitment to be a better mom, to honor Carter. I make sure all my kids know I love them everyday, even when I get the eye rolls or the selective hearing, but at least they know. I am going to continue working on being the best mom I can. I am going to be grateful for middle of the night feedings, because it means I get to feed my babies, or grateful for nightmares and growing pains at 2 am, because it means she is growing. I will be grateful for earaches, because there are antibiotics to cure them. Thanks to Baby Carter for that.
We will miss Baby Carter and always wonder what it would be like and how things would be different if he was still here.
